Nabisco Ritz

Interactive ad for Ritz Crackers. Recipe inspiration with topping combinations, an interactive cracker builder, and occasion-themed seasonal reskinning.
Overview
Ritz wanted to reposition the cracker as a canvas, not just a snack. I built an interactive topping selector where users choose a base and toppings, with ingredients animating onto the cracker in a stacking sequence. Recipe cards showcase combinations across entertaining occasions (game day, holiday, summer), and the entire template reskins per season via CSS custom properties.
How It Works
Occasion
Full-bleed food photography: a styled platter or spread. Ritz logo and occasion tagline animate in.
Recipes
Recipe cards cycle through topping combinations: cheese and herbs, smoked salmon, bruschetta. Each card shows the assembled cracker and ingredient list.
Build
Interactive topping selector. Users choose base (original, whole wheat) and toppings. Ingredients animate onto the cracker in a stacking sequence.
Shop
CTA to recipe page and product locator. Recipe-specific deep links carry the selected combination.
Engineering
Recipe Gallery
Food photography cards with GreenSock cross-fade transitions. Each recipe card is a self-contained unit: assembled cracker image, ingredient list, occasion tag.
Topping Selector
Grid of ingredient options. Selecting a topping triggers a GreenSock animation: the ingredient drops onto the cracker with a subtle bounce.
Food Photography
All imagery shot specifically for advertising: overhead angles, styled props, warm lighting. Compression optimized for color accuracy in food tones.
Occasion Themes
CSS custom properties per occasion: warm golds for holiday, bold reds for game day, fresh greens for summer. Theme swap changes the entire ad mood.
Engineering Decisions
Nobody gets excited about a cracker photo. Showing a beautiful assembled snack with premium toppings elevates the product from commodity to canvas.
Letting users build their own combination creates ownership and extends engagement time. The stacking animation makes the interaction satisfying.
Ritz ads ran year-round. Occasion theming (game day, holiday) makes the same template feel fresh and contextually relevant each campaign.
Food looks appetizing under warm, styled lighting: not clinical studio white. The photography style drives the entire ad's emotional tone.
